Giro d’Italia 2023: Magnus Cort wins Stage 10 from breakaway, Geraint Thomas survives cold and wet day in pink
Magnus Cort (EF Education-EasyPost) completed his Grand Tour Slam with a maiden victory at the Giro d’Italia on Stage 10 from the breakaway as Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) survived his first day in the maglia rosa.
The day began with rumours of a rider summit and a decision to only race the final 70km remaining amid wet and freezing conditions. Instead, a thrilling stage saw a three-man break containing Cort, Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech) and Alessandro De Marchi (Jayco AlUla) hold off a bulging chase group containing Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) and other hungry sprinters.
