That left Arsenal with a clear path and they look to have now secured the move.

The two clubs are now trying to resolve payment terms.
If the move goes through it will be a Premier League record fee for a British player, topping the £100m that Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish two years ago.
Rice made 245 appearances for West Ham and led the team to silverware in his last game in the Europa Conference League final.
But with his contract expiring next summer, West Ham have opted to cash in.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was asked about the club’s pursuit of Rice and Havertz earlier this month.
“I repeat, I’m not talking about players from other clubs, but in the case of Kai he has already shown a lot, including [winning] a Champions League. He is a talented player, versatile and only 24 years old.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season behind Manchester City.
They were leading for much of the season until being overhauled by Pep Guardiola’s side.
