US Open 2023: Day 3 Order of play and schedule – When are Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff playing?
Tuesday concluded the first round of the 2023 US Open, and there have been some big-name exits as well as some hard-fought victories to reach the second round in New York.
The action continues on Wednesday, August 30 with some of the tournament’s top stars kicking off the second-round.
Second seed Novak Djokovic comes up against Bernabe Zapata Miralles after triumphing in straight sets against Alexandre Muller, while reigning champion Iga Swiatek is also involved, and she will play Daria Saville.
Frances Tiafoe, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Capser Ruud, Taylor Fritz, Coco Gauff, and Elena Rybakina are all also in action on day three.
Top women’s match – Mirra Andreeva v Coco Gauff
This is set to be a thrilling encounter to kick-start the second round at Arthur Ashe Stadium as Coco Gauff, fresh off the back of her Cincinnati Open title win, faces 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the early match.
Guaff shook off the Cincinnati hangover after falling behind to Laura Siegemund in a controversial first round match to beat the German convincingly in the end, winning 3-6 6-2 6-4.
Her opponent Andreeva came through her first-round match comfortably as she saw off Olivia Gadecki.
Gauff will be expected to come through the test in her home slam, where she made the quarter-final last year before losing out to Caroline Garcia.
The 19-year-old American will want to improve on her achievement last year and continue her success on the court after securing her first WTA 1000 title last week.
Top men’s match – Novak Djokovic v Bernabe Zapata Miralles
Everyone wants to see the best players in action and most will be anticipating nothing short of a win for the Serbian, who has won this tournament three times.
Djokovic has never failed to reach the third round in the 16 times he has competed at Flushing Meadows in New York, and he has progressed beyond the third round in each of his last 14 tournaments since 2006.
He breezed past Alexandre Muller 6-0 6-2 6-3 in the opening round and is set to follow-up Gauff and Andreeva’s battle at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
As for his opponent, Miralles, the Spaniard beat Ethan Quinn 6-4 6-4 6-3 to set up a clash with the second seed.
Only he can stop Djokovic from reaching the third round at the US Open for the first time ever.
