11-year-old killed, children hurt in Cincinnati shooting

An 11-year-old boy was killed and five others — including children — were hurt in a shooting in Cincinnati, according to police.

Police received reports of the gunfire in the suburb of West End just before 9:30 p.m. Friday, and found six people with varying degrees of injuries.

The 11-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, Cincinnati police chief Terri Theetge said, according to local reports.

The ages and identities of those injured have not been released.

Three victims were taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, police said.

All three patients were in critical condition when they arrived but one was discharged overnight, while the other two remained hospitalized.

The other two victims were taken to the University of Cincinnati Hospital and released Saturday.

There is no information on suspects or what sparked the shooting, Theetge said.

“This is absolutely unacceptable in our city — unacceptable that on a Friday night six people were shot in one incident,” Theetge said. “It is not humane to pull out a firearm and shoot individuals recklessly.”

On Friday, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval said on X, “Tonight, there was a horrific tragedy in the West End. Children were shot. At least one life was lost. Our friends and neighbors are feeling unimaginable fear, trauma, and anger.”
