14-year-old in critical condition after falling from NYC train in possible ‘subway surfing’ accident: NYPD

A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling from a New York City subway train in another possible “subway surfing” accident, according to police.

The teenager was riding through Queens when he fell from a northbound 7 train near the 33rd Street–Rawson Street station — which is elevated — shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, cops said.

It’s not clear exactly how he fell off or whether he was on top of a subway car at the time. The boy was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital with a traumatic head injury and was listed in critical condition.

There were no other injuries and the incident remains under investigation.

The accident comes just over one week after another 14-year-old, Brian Crespo, was killed while subway surfing on a Manhattan-bound L train in Brooklyn.

Crespo and another boy, also 14, were thrown from the top of a car near the Broadway Junction Station on Thursday around 1:45 p.m.

Crespo was pronounced dead at the scene and the second teen was rushed to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in stable condition.

Mayor Eric Adams blamed social media for fueling the trend of teenagers trying the dangerous stunt. Adams called on sites like TikTok to ban such videos.

According to MTA data, there were 52 reports of people riding outside of subway cars in the city in February and 58 in January, the most recent stats available for 2023.

Adams said the number of people subway surfing skyrocketed by 366% between 2021 and 2022. Police and city officials have also warned about the stunts.
