2 thieves take off with diamond-encrusted Birkin bag, $9.3M in jewels and cash stolen at Spanish airport: report
Two unidentified travelers had a diamond-encrusted Hermès Birkin bag and $9.3 million worth of jewels and money stolen from them at a Barcelona airport.
The two thieves stole the items while the travelers were checking into their Emirates flight, making off with $5 million 47-carat diamond ring, a $822,000 Chanel brooch, a nearly $1million Bulgari watch, $548,000 earrings, and tens of thousands in cash, according to AeroTime.
It is unclear how much the Birkin cost, but the famous bag typically runs around $10,000 to $40,000 and can go as high as $2 million.
The Birkin was sitting on top of a Louis Vuitton suitcase when it was stolen.
The thieves were later found by Spanish authorities and the valuables were returned, according to Insider.
Catalan Mossos D’esquadra Police revealed on Twitter that the thieve “threw” the jewels and money from their vehicle before being arrested. They were arrested on the AP-7 highway.
It is unclear what the thieves were charged with.
