6 hospitalized after Newark-bound United Airlines flight diverts to NY airport due to ‘high winds’
Six people aboard a United Airlines flight traveling from Israel to Newark were hospitalized after the plane was forced to divert to a New York airport Friday due to high winds, officials said.
United Airlines flight 85 departed from Tel-Aviv and landed safely at Stewart International Airport in Orange County New York around 6:45 p.m., where it was met by paramedics on the tarmac, according to photos and a statement from the airline.
United said the plane, carrying more than 300 passengers, diverted to the New York airport “after reported high winds at Newark.”
One passenger suffered “a medical incident” and several others were evaluated for possible motion sickness, the airline said.
New Windsor EMS said in a social media post that six people were hospitalized for “minor ailments.”
The Boeing 737 refueled at Stewart and then completed its trip to Newark, United said.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
