60% believe the president ‘helped and participated’ in Hunter Biden’s business dealings

More than half of Americans believe President Biden had some involvement in his son’s foreign business dealings, according to a new poll. 

The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey of 2,851 registered voters, released Monday, found that 60% believe “Joe Biden helped and participated in Hunter Biden’s business,” while 40% responded that they don’t think the 81-year-old president had any involvement.

“While the news has pivoted to other topics, voters remain concerned about Hunter Biden and how involved President Biden was in his business,” Harris Poll Chairman Mark Penn said in a statement to the Hill. 

“Hunter received a high unfavorable rating – worse than the president – and most believe that the president at least knew about his dealings,” Penn added. 

Hunter’s 55% unfavorable rating was the highest among the more than two dozen public figures respondents were asked to rate. 

President Biden’s 48% unfavorable rating was the second highest.

The president claims he has never talked business with his 53-year-old son and has repeatedly denied knowledge of his dealings despite emails from Hunter’s abandoned laptop and congressional testimony from the first son’s former business partner Devon Archer suggesting otherwise.  

Then-Vice President Joe Biden dined at Washington, DC’s Cafe Milano on at least two occasions with Hunter and some of his shady business associates,  Archer told lawmakers in July.

The first dinner included former first lady of Moscow Yelena Baturina, who would later wire $3.5 million to a company associated with Hunter and Archer; Kazakhstani businessman Kenes Rakishev, who wired $142,300 used on a luxury car for Hunter; and former Kazakhstani Prime Minister Karim Massimov, Archer said. 

“[Joe Biden] entered the room and shook everybody’s hand,” Archer recalled.

The second meal was attended by Burisma gas company executive Vadym Pozharskyi, “Hunter, Joe, myself, Karim Massimov, a Greek Orthodox priest, maybe someone from [the] World Food Program,” Archer noted. 

“[Joe Biden] had dinner. He had dinner,” Archer recalled of the second Cafe Milano meeting. 

Emails from Hunter’s laptop also show the first son informing an attendee that “Dad will be there but keep that between us for now” and Pozharskyi thanking Hunter the morning after, writing, “Thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent some time together.”

Archer also revealed that Joe Biden, again while vice president, “had coffee” with Jonathan Li, the incoming CEO of Chinese state-backed investment fund BHR Partners and that Hunter, who held a 10% stake in BHR until at least 2021, later put his dad on speakerphone with Li as well.

In July 2017, Hunter told a Chinese business associate that he was “sitting” with his father and the two “would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” according to a WhatsApp message disclosed to Congress by IRS whistleblowers who were investigating the first son’s finances.

The Republican-led House impeachment inquiry into President Biden, launched in September, is seeking to determine the scope of the president’s alleged involvement in his family’s extensive foreign business dealings and whether the president committed any wrongdoing.
