8 people hospitalized after ‘sudden severe turbulence’ on JetBlue flight

Seven passengers and a crew member were hospitalized after an international JetBlue flight experienced “sudden severe turbulence” as it neared a Florida airport Monday morning, officials said.

JetBlue flight 1256 was traveling into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport from Ecuador when the plane suddenly began to shake, the company told ABC News and other outlets.

Eight people were taken to the hospital.

The plane made a safe landing, and was quickly met by medics on the ground.

The seven travelers and the airline worker were taken to the hospital where they were evaluated and treated, JetBlue said.

Further information about the condition of the eight people was not immediately released.

The flight landed after 5 a.m., according to online records.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it would investigate the incident on the Airbus A320.

JetBlue said the plane involved was taken out of service and will be inspected.
