Paul Pelosi out for the first time in public after attack at Kennedy Center Honors

Paul Pelosi attended the Kennedy Center Honors Sunday night, in his first public appearance since he was brutally attacked with a hammer by a home invader more than a month ago.

Paul Pelosi, 82, stood next to his wife, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, at the annual award ceremony at The Kennedy Center in a photo taken by a Getty photographer.

Paul Pelosi was wearing a hat and one glove at the awards ceremony, possibly to conceal injuries he sustained from the assault.

He had undergone extensive surgery following the violent October assault and still faces a “long haul” to a full recovery, Nancy Pelosi, also 82, said last month.

Doctors had to remove his skull, reshape it and fuse it back together following the violent attack in which a maniac broke into the Pelosi’s San Francisco home and bashed his head in with a hammer on Oct. 28.

Paul Pelosi spent about six days in Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center Intensive Care Unit.

Last week, Nancy Pelosi, who is resigning as the Democratic leader in the House, said her husband was “coming along,” but needs more time to fully recover.

“It’s going to take a while,” she said during her weekly press conference Thursday. “It’s going to take a while. Head injuries are — they have an impact beyond surgery. It’s a big thing.”

David DePape, 42, was arrested for the attack and has been charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault. He allegedly had planned to target Nancy Pelosi, but she was not home at the time.
