Georgia investigators scramble to ID woman’s body found by hunters
A woman was found dead in the woods in Georgia earlier this month by hunters — and authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying her.
The body of the woman, who had brown eyes and brown hair, was discovered in the woods of the Portal Hunting Club in Riceboro on Dec. 2, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said in a statement Tuesday.
The woman, who was about 5 feet 9 and between 185 and 200 pounds, is believed to be the victim of a homicide.
A forensic artist sketch released by the GBI shows a woman with what appears to be short hair and almond-shaped eyes.
She had no recognizable scars, marks or tattoos.
Based on the condition of her remains, the victim is estimated to have been killed about two weeks before she was found. The GBI did not release any information about the cause of death.
The GBI concluded its statement saying that the investigation is “active and ongoing.” Anyone with information that may lead to the woman’s identity is encouraged to contact either the GBI or the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
