Mariah Carey makes secret Broadway debut in ‘Some Like It Hot’ musical
Mariah Carey just made this the hottest ticket on the Great White Way.
The pop diva, 52, made a surprise cameo at opening night of the Broadway musical “Some Like It Hot” on Sunday — but not in the way you’d expect.
Carey — who serves as one of the show’s producers — came over the loudspeaker at the beginning of the show with an audio recording for the audience.
“Welcome to the Shubert Theatre,” Carey could be heard stating, according to People. “At this time, please take a moment to turn off your cellphones, and remember the use of photographic equipment and recording devices is strictly prohibited.”
Carey’s announcement reportedly thrilled the audience, but it also caused quite a stir backstage.
Video taken of cast and crew shows several feigning fainting spells upon hearing Mimi’s announcement. Meanwhile, other members of the company clapped and whooped.
According to the theater, Carey’s voice is set to welcome guests every night before the show.
The Grammy-winning artist joined the production in late November, citing her love for Marilyn Monroe — who starred in the 1959 film upon which the show is based.
“I first became familiar with this story through the timeless film starring Marilyn Monroe,” Carey said in a statement. “She’s been an important touchstone throughout my life, so much so that I acquired her treasured baby grand white piano at an auction.”
“When [producer] Neil Meron shared this new take on the beloved film, I knew I had to be a part of it,” she excitedly added.
“Some Like It Hot” stars Christian Borle, Adrianna Hicks and J. Harrison Ghee.
Carey’s cameo may add some fizz to the production, which received a tepid review from The Post.
