Republicans want answers after latest Twitter Files
Top Republican lawmakers are demanding answers after the latest Twitter Files disclosures revealed the close relationship between the company and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“@FBI has a lot to answer for after the latest drop of #TwitterFiles6. @Jim_Jordan @RepMikeJohnson @RepAndyBiggsAZ @RepDanBishop and I will be asking the questions,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) in a tweet Friday.
The message alludes to a looming House Judiciary Committee investigation into politicization of the FBI and US Justice Department. Jordan, the incoming chairman, has promised a sweeping probe.
“Does anyone still trust the FBI?” the official House Judiciary GOP account tweeted in response to the story.
During an appearance on the Fox News show “Hannity,” Rep. James Comer (R-Ky) said the disclosures would also be a “top priority for Republicans” on the House Oversight Committee, where he will take over as chairman next year.
“The FBI had its own ministry of propaganda. Eighty FBI agents dedicated to nothing but censoring free speech on the internet,” Comer said. “Anyone that cares about free speech should be outraged, whether you’re a Republican or Democrat, this has to stop.”
Since his take over of Twitter in October, Elon Musk has been systemically releasing batches of internal company documents, giving a window into how the platform has operated. The “Twitter Files” have so far shed new light on the company’s decisions to ban The Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden.
