Beat Feuz to retire next month from Alpine Skiing after Wengen and Kitzbuhel downhill races

Beat Feuz has announced he will retire from Alpine Skiing next month after Kitzbuhel.

The 35-year-old has had a clear dip in form this season with a best result of fifth, which came in the Downhill in Lake Louise.

“Pushing your limits and taking risks have been my passions in skiing for years,” Feuz wrote on Instagram.

“My feeling was often the key to success. Now my feeling tells me: the physical limits have been reached.

“I look forward to spending more time with my family and to the new challenges that will come into my life.

“At the same time, I am incredibly grateful that I was able to pursue my passion for so long and was able to experience many emotional moments.

“After 16 years in the Ski World Cup, I will end my active career as a competitive skier on January 21, 2023. I’m happy to be able to enjoy my favourite races in Wengen and Kitzbuhel for a last time.”

Feuz will race in Bormio on December 28 in one of the toughest Downhills of the season, before ending his career with the two most historic events on the calendar in Wengen and Kitzbuhel next month.

He will therefore not race at the World Championships in France, which take place from February 7-19.

Odermatt is already an Olympic champion and has already built a big lead in the overall World Cup standings after 10 races as he looks to defend his crown from last season.
