VAR has made six incorrect interventions in Premier League this season, 42 decisions deemed correct

An independent panel has concluded that VAR in the Premier League has led to six incorrect interventions so far this season.

The video assistant referees also missed another six incidents where they should have got involved.

The panel, introduced this season to conduct a weekly review of Key Match Incidents in the league, have pored through hundreds of incidents from August through to the break in November for the World Cup.

The five-person team reportedly identified 48 incidents that required VAR to intervene, with 42 correct decisions reached.

Six decisions saw VAR overturn on-field decisions that had initially been correct while a further six were missed completely.

VAR Lee Mason advised on-pitch referee Paul Tierney to rule out the goal for an earlier foul by Martin Odegaard on Christian Eriksen.

Former referee Howard Webb has been appointed as the Premier League’s chief refereeing officer with the aim of improving standards both on the pitch and in terms of the technology used.

Webb is set to visit all Premier League clubs in the new year to discuss refereeing and VAR implementation.

The BBC report that a new VAR coach, Phil Bentham, has been appointed to work with officials.
