George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers was one of many residents without power.
Storms earlier this week knocked out power for thousands of residents. One in particular took to social media because he said he had an important event this weekend.
The star San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle wrote on Twitter on Friday that he had been without power for four days, tagging the Twitter account of Pacific Gas and Electric Company for help.
“A lil help would be appreciated, thanks,” Mr. Kittle wrote. “Just trying to prepare for something this weekend.”
The “something” that Mr. Kittle is referring to is Saturday’s N.F.L. playoff game between the 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks at 1:30 p.m. local time. The 49ers are hosting the Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, in the team’s first home playoff game since the 2019 season.
Ten N.F.L. teams play in domed stadiums, but the 49ers are not one of them. The game is expected to be played during heavy rain and winds — not great for catching and throwing passes.
But the 49ers have played in severe weather conditions already this season. In their opening game in September, when they lost to the Bears in Chicago, players routinely slipped on the waterlogged field. After the victory, many Bears players dove into one end zone in slip-and-slide fashion as fans in ponchos and rain gear cheered from their seats.
The 49ers also won a playoff game last season in Green Bay, Wis., against the Packers in snow and frigid temperatures.
For its part, PG&E responded on Twitter to say that it would restore power for Mr. Kittle and other Californians as soon as possible: “We’ve got our offense, defense and special teams on this, George!”
