Frances Tiafoe ‘takes it to a whole new level’ with controversial Australian Open kit – John McEnroe
Frances Tiafoe is “one of the guys that can possibly get away with” wearing what is proving a noteworthy Australian Open outfit, reckons Eurosport’s John McEnroe.
Tiafoe walked onto court on Monday in Melbourne sporting his now customary sleeveless top and shorts, but what was so glaringly different was the wavy, multi-coloured pattern decorating his entire kit.
Tiafoe backed up his stand-out outfit choice with a four-set win over Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, and afterwards McEnroe waded into unusual territory for him: a fashion discussion.

“That wouldn’t have been the design I would’ve come up with,” the seven-time major winner told Eurosport.
“I love Frances and he oozes personality, but that’s taking the ‘oozing personality’ to a whole new level, to me.
“He’s one of the few guys that can possibly get away with it.
“I see the girls are sort of half-and-half a little bit, I don’t know if they feel they can go all the way like Frances did.

“I’d be interested to see how much the players had to do with that.”
