Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Ben Chilwell: Manchester City could miss out on top transfer targets due to investigation

Man City face uncertain summer

There are a lot of uncertainties surrounding Manchester City and their summer transfer business following the announcement that the Premier League detailed over 100 charges against the club following a four-year investigation into their finances. The defending champions are keen to compete for the summer signings of England duo Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, while manager Pep Guardiola is hoping to strengthen at full-back.
The Standard report: “City are among a number of suitors chasing both Rice and Bellingham, but being unable to guarantee Champions League football would leave them at a significant disadvantage.

“Guardiola is also desperate for reinforcements at full-back and has been linked with a move for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell while Southampton right-back Tino Livramento is a long-term target.

“Full-back Joao Cancelo has already joined Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal, while Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan could leave in the summer.”

Chelsea open squad contract talks

Chelsea have opened contract talks with a number of first-team squad members. The west London club are edging closer to an agreement with Thiago Silva, but there is less progress with midfielder duo N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount.

The Standard reveal: “Chelsea are in advanced talks with Thiago Silva over a deal to take the defender’s contract beyond his 39th birthday. N’Golo Kante’s extension is also on the agenda, but the midfielder is reluctant to accept a two-year contract with an option for an extra year. The 31-year-old, whose season has been wrecked by injury, is hoping for a three-plus-one deal.

“Co-owner Todd Boehly is handling Mason Mount’s new proposed seven-year contract, but little progress has been made. The 24-year-old, the club’s player of the season for the last two seasons, remains among the lowest paid at the Bridge and wants a salary similar to friends in the England team. Liverpool and other ‘Big Six’ Premier League clubs are ready to test Chelsea’s resolve in the summer, and the new regime could be inclined to sell Mount.

“Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher have had no contact on new deals, amid speculation that they could also be moved on in the summer.”

Liverpool scout Everton defender

Liverpool hold interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who is currently on a season-long loan at PSV Eindhoven. The Premier League club are a fan of the 20-year-old, who is owned by their local rivals, but face competition from Manchester United, AS Roma and PSV to sign Branthwaite this summer.

The Mail reveals: “Manchester United, Liverpool and Roma will send scouts to watch Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite next week.

“PSV made two offers, the last believed to be worth up to £15million, which were rejected by Everton. Roma have also been checking regularly on his progress while the fact he is homegrown and left footed have kept Liverpool and United on his trail.

“Their Premier League status at the end of the season will dictate much about who stays and who must go.”

Spurs eye emergency cover for Lloris

Tottenham Hotspur could turn to the free agency market in the hope to find emergency cover for the injured Hugo Lloris. The club captain has been ruled out for up to eight weeks with a knee ligament injury. Fraser Forster is ready to step up to a first-team role as back-up, but Spurs are keen to add another goalkeeper to their squad due to their lack of experienced depth in the position.

The Mirror reports: “Foster, who retired last June when his contract with Watford expired, would be available as a free agent on a short-term deal.

“Spurs would, however, need special dispensation from the Premier League to add Foster to their 25-man squad.”
