Boehly’s secret meeting

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has reportedly met with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to discuss a potential transfer for Neymar. The Blues have been splashing the cash under their new ownership and it does not seem like they are looking to stop any time soon.

The Mirror (via Le Parisien) reveal: “Boehly reportedly flew into the French capital on Tuesday ahead of PSG’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

“Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi with the transfer of Neymar discussed.

“The future of Neymar at the club has come under increasing scrutiny this season amid his ongoing feud with star attacking partner Kylian Mbappe. The French ace is believed to be keen on the club to cash-in on the Brazilian.”

Ten Hag has not given up on De Jong

Manchester United are still interested in the possibility of signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona this summer. The two clubs reached an agreement for the transfer last summer, but the Dutch midfielder decided to stay with Barca. However, United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on reuniting with his former Ajax star.

The Mail reveal: “It’s understood that Ten Hag has not given up hope of signing the man who launched his career under the United manager at Ajax, and could make another bid at the end of the season.”

While Ten Hag praised De Jong in his pre-match press conference: “Frenkie is an incredible player. For every club in the whole world, he will strengthen the squad because he has a unique quality. If you can get him in the squad your team will be stronger.”

Martinez sale could spark Villa rebuild

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery may decide to sell World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez in a bid to raise funds to rebuild his squad. Emery is hoping the club spends money this summer to assemble him a squad that can challenge for European qualification and Villa are expecting offers for the Argentine stopper, who wants to play Champions League football, in the summer window.

The Mail report: “There are other first-teamers Emery may be willing to sell, like full-backs Lucas Digne or Matty Cash, but with little chance of making a significant profit. Martinez, on the other hand, was bought for about £16m from Arsenal in summer 2020 and is now worth substantially more.

“Brentford goalkeeper David Raya will have a number of clubs chasing him this summer. Robert Sanchez of Brighton is in the same boat. If Villa could land either of those players for less than they sold Martinez, it might be a deal to suit everyone.”

Southampton end Marsch pursuit

Talks have broken down between Southampton and Jesse Marsch over the vacant role at St Mary’s, despite the two parties having come to a verbal agreement. The American, who was recently sacked by Southampton’s Premier League relegation rivals Leeds United, was heavily linked with a swift return to management in England’s top flight.

The Guardian reveal: “It is understood that, having agreed to take over verbally, negotiations with the American faltered because Southampton were only prepared to offer him a contract until the end of the season, with Marsch hoping for a longer-term deal.

“First-team coach Rubén Sellés will continue to take the team in training and for Saturday’s match at Chelsea, with the 39-year-old emerging as a potential alternative to Marsch. Southampton could consider hiring an experienced coach to work alongside the Spaniard, who is highly regarded at St Mary’s.

“Southampton’s board have had interest from a number of other candidates, including the former Everton manager, Frank Lampard, and the DC United manager, Wayne Rooney.”
