Scottie Scheffler wins Players Championship by five-shot margin, Tyrrell Hatton the runner-up
Scottie Scheffler won The Players Championship in Sawgrass, Florida, on Sunday evening in the United States.
The 26-year-old American returns to the top of the world rankings as a result of the triumph, and the success marks more silverware for Scheffler, last year’s Masters winner, and builds on his WM Phoenix Open victory last month.
The win means Scheffler is only the third player to hold The Players and The Masters simultaneously, with Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus the previous superstars to manage the feat.

His five-stroke victory is the largest winning margin since 2006, when Stephen Ames won by six shots.
Scheffler took home $4.5 million of the $25m prize pot as a result of his win.
Scheffler enjoyed a comfortable final round as he secured a five-shot victory at TPC Sawgrass. He recorded five back-to-back birdies as he finished up three-under on 69, to finish the tournament 17-under overall.
Second place went to England’s Tyrrell Hatton, who was second on 12-under, also delivering five consecutive birdies in his final five holes, to record a 65.
Hatton was at par on his first nine holes, but as well as the final five, he also birdied the 10th and 12th to close in on second and keep some pressure up.
Viktor Hovland put down 68 to finish 10-under alongside Tom Hoge.
Sheffler began the round with a two-shot advantage over Australian’s Min Woo Lee, but after seeing that advantage whittled away early, Lee suffered a triple-bogey seven on the fourth hole, followed up by a double-bogey seven on the 11th.
Lee ultimately finished eight-under with a round of 76.
