‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry’s book to be released in November
It’s the one where Chandler finished his book.
Matthew Perry announced on Tuesday that he has finished his memoir via an Instagram post showing a stack of typed-out pages.
The caption read, “My ego doesn’t like that I have to stop writing about myself. But the book is now done. So that’s that.”
The “Friends” actor revealed in February that he was working on a memoir — “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing” — and shared a snapshot of the cover. The publisher, Macmillan division Flatiron Books, said Perry would be detailing some behind-the-scenes stories from the NBC sitcom and his struggle with addiction using his “trademark humor.”
Perry did stints in rehab in 1997 and 2001. In a 2016 interview with BBC Radio 2, he said he didn’t remember three years of “Friends,” saying he was a “little out of it” for Seasons 3 through 6 of the iconic show.
In 2021, on HBO Max’s “Friends: The Reunion,” Perry opened up about his struggles with addiction and the pressure to be funny.
“To me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh,” he said. “If I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get, I would freak out.”
In a news release last year, Flatiron Book’s Megan Lynch said, “We need humor, we need catharsis, and we need to agree on something — and Matthew’s extraordinary story, told in his inimitable voice, is that thing. Matthew’s book has unrivaled potential to bring people together, which feels especially galvanizing right now, a time of isolation and division.”
Fans could not agree more, as one person commented, “Could I BE anymore excited for this?”
Perry’s memoir is currently set to be released on Nov. 1, 2022.
