California cops shoot, kill man who charged them with steel bar, called them ‘pigs’

A California police officer shot and killed a man with a violent past Sunday who charged at him with a steel bar and called his squad “pigs.”

Bodycam footage shows 60-year-old Adam Barcenas barreling toward three officers conducting a 6 a.m. DUI stop in Oxnard, a city 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

“Hey you f–king pigs,” Barcenas can be heard screaming.

“I hate pig. Come on. I hate pig. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.”

With a 5-foot steel bar raised, Barcenas stormed the three cops while they were standing on the sidewalk with a driver they suspected of driving under the influence.

The officers ushered the citizen out of the way and repeatedly ordered the belligerent man to lay down the bar.

“Barcenas ignored the officers’ commands and continued to advance towards them in an aggressive and threatening manner,” Oxnard police said.

Two officers pulled out tasers, while another — who Barcenas was apparently targeting — whipped out his gun.

Officer Shayn Schwartz fired four deadly shots at the charging man, video shows.

Barcenas was struck three times: in his right leg, right hip and left upper torso.

One officer deployed her taser, but it did not penetrate Barcenas’ skin.

The third officer did not deploy his weapon.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died about two hours later.

Barcenas had a history of violent crime, KVTA reported.

He attacked two elderly strangers on the street in two separate unprovoked attacks in 2019.

He rushed up to a 71-year-old woman, punched her in the head, and pushed her to the ground and then kicked her several times. She died eight days later, but prosecutors could not definitively tie her death to Barcenas’ attack.

Just a short time later, he approached an 80-year-old man who was walking with his wife and punched him in the face and walked away before returning to deliver a second blow.

All three officers were placed on administrative leave, the department said. None had been involved in a shooting incident before.

Schwartz had joined the Oxnard Police Department in April 2022, the agency disclosed. He had served as an officer at the Burbank Police Department from August 2018 through March 2022.

The city is investigating the shooting.
