Pirmin Werner and Laura Peel seal aerial gold in Almaty to end season in style

Pirmin Werner secured third-place in the overall aerial World Cup standings with a gold medal in the final event of the season in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Battling out with Christopher Lillis for third spot on the overall podium, the Swiss ski sensation came out and delivered a staggering score of 123 to end the season on a high with a gold medal.

He finished five points ahead of fellow Swiss Noe Roth, who had already secured top spot overall, as Switzerland claimed a one-two.

Canada’s Emile Nadeau climbed the podium for the first time this season in third, some way back from the leading duo with 96.83 points.

Lillis finished sixth, meaning he had to settle for fourth-place overall, while home Kazakhstani duo Roman Ivanov and Sherzod Khashyrbayev finished 11th and 12th respectively.

It was a similar story in the women’s event, with Australian Laura Peel finishing ahead of compatriot Danielle Scott to secure second spot ahead of Canadian Marion Thenault.

Peel finished comfortably ahead of Scott, scoring 110 points, finishing 13 points ahead of her fellow Australian, who had already secured top spot.

Thenault finished third to stand on the podium for the fourth time this season, but that was not enough to finish second overall after Peel’s second gold medal of the season.

Home duo Zhanbota Aldabergenova and Ayana Zholdas finished sixth and ninth respectively.
