The Ocean Race: ‘I look like Pirate Rosie now!’ – Team Malizia confirm Rosalin Kuiper suffered concussion after fall
In a statement released overnight early on Monday morning, it was revealed that on Sunday morning Kuiper was thrown from her bunk when the boat turned suddenly.
Whilst Kuiper didn’t lose consciousness, she was bleeding badly so the team contacted race doctor, Dr Spike Briggs.

Later that day, Dr Briggs checked back in with the Team Malizia boat after the wound was cleaned and bandaged, and following the follow-up consultation, it was confirmed that Kuiper had suffered a concussion.
Kuiper is now resting and will be continually monitored. Conditions in the boat are expected to get better throughout Monday.
In a message to team director Holly Cova, Kuiper said she thinks she will be okay.
“I will get over it, I look like Pirate Rosie now,” she said.
“The slamming (in the boat) is quite bad, though, and goes through my head, but I think I will be okay.
“I am sleeping a lot and the boys are looking after me really well.”
Skipper Will Harris added that “it is hard to stop the boat from wiping out at the moment, we are doing what we can to keep it stable but the conditions are incredibly hard.
“We are keeping a close eye on Rosie and will do all we can to make sure she is okay. She has been really brave and is trying to rest.”
In The Ocean Race’s statement it was confirmed that due to the position of the boat the decision has been made for Kuiper to stay on the boat for the time being rather than being taken ashore. She will be monitored for any developments.
