Coolio’s cause of death revealed 6 months later: manager

Coolio died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl in September at 59, his manager confirmed to The Post Thursday.

The “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper also had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system at the time of his death, said his longtime manager, Jarel “Jarez” Posey.

Posey added that investigators determined Coolio’s severe asthma and decades-long cigarette smoking habit were factors in his Sept. 28 death.

The Post reached out to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office.

Coolio, whose legal name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was found dead on his friend’s bathroom floor in LA, Posey told reporters at the time. It was previously suspected he died of cardiac arrest.

TMZ broke the news of Coolio’s death, reporting that law enforcement sources told them at the time that no drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene.

Coolio had shared a video of his last performance on Instagram just four days before his death.

“Gangsta’s Paradise” spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1995 and was parodied by Weird Al Yankovic in his song “Amish Paradise.”

His other hits include 1994’s “Fantastic Voyage,” which peaked at No. 3, and “1,2,3,4 (Sumpin’ New)” and “It’s All the Way Live (Now).”

He is survived by his six children and ex-wife, Josefa Salina, whom he married in 1996. The couple split in 2000.
