Marquez was expected to return in Austin, where he is a seven-time winner, but will miss the race following a scan.
The Repsol Honda rider said on social media: “I have just had a CAT scan and it was confirmed that the bone is still in the process of healing.
“After talking with the medical team led by Dr. Ignacio Roger de Ona, we have decided not to take any risks and therefore I won’t be able to ride in Austin.
“I will continue working and rehabilitating as I have been doing so far to be able to get back on the bike as soon as possible.”
Marquez suffered the injury during a collision with RNF Aprilia rider Miguel Oliveira at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
However, when it became apparent Marquez was set to miss the race the penalty was then deferred to the next round when he participates.
Honda have appealed to the MotoGP Court of Appeal over the change in application of the penalty.
Marquez’s next race could be the Spanish GP on April 30.
The six-time champion is 16th in the standings on seven points – 43 off championship leader Bezzecchi.
Francesco Bagnaia is second in the standings, nine points behind Bezzecchi, with Johann Zarco in third, 15 points off top spot.
