Gunman Kills Five People in Texas Home, Authorities Say

At least five people were fatally shot, including an 8-year-old child, and three others were wounded late Friday night at a home north of Houston, the authorities said, adding that the gunman remained at large.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene in Cleveland, Texas, and a fifth person died at the hospital, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office said. Three other people remained hospitalized on Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office said it received a call reporting a harassment just after 11:30 p.m. Friday. When officers responded to the home, they found multiple gunshot victims, Sheriff Greg Capers told local news reporters. Two victims were found by the front door, he said, and another in the living room. Sheriff Capers added that the bodies of two women were found in a bedroom lying on top of two children, both of whom survived.

The victims were all from Honduras, the sheriff said, adding that 10 people were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Sheriff Capers said that the authorities believed they had identified the suspected gunman and that a manhunt was underway. He said the authorities believed the gunman was no longer in the area.
