Lori Vallow’s hair found on tape wrapped on son JJ’s body: expert

Bombshell testimony from a DNA expert revealed “Doomsday Mom” Lori Vallow Daybell’s hair was found on a piece of duct tape that had been used to wrap her 7-year old son Joshua J.J. Vallow’s body.

Keeley Coleman, a senior DNA analyst at Virginia-based Bode Technology, said on Monday hair found on the duct tape was tested against three other DNA samples, including Vallow Daybell’s and her former best friend, Melanie Gibb.

The hair sample also was tested against the DNA of Tylee Ryan, J.J’s 16-year old sister, who also was found in a shallow grave at the home of Vallow Daybell’s husband, Chad Daybell, in Rexburg, Idaho.

“The partial DNA profile matched the DNA profile provided for Lori Vallow Daybell,” Coleman testified. “The probability of randomly selecting a random individual in relation to that profile in 1 in 71 billion.”

The shocking testimony kicked off week five of Vallow Daybell’s murder trial in Idaho.

After an exhaustive search which garnered national attention, J.J.’s body was found on June 2020 buried under a tree in Daybell’s backyard, while Tylee’s charred remains were located in an area used as a “pet cemetery” in the Idaho property.

An FBI forensic anthropologist testified last week that J.J.’s body had stretch marks on his neck and bruises on his wrist and ankles where he was bound with duct tape.

Tylee’s remains had been gnawed on by an animal and hacked with a tool before being burned, FBI forensic anthropologist Angi Christensen said.

Chad Daybell is being tried separately and facing similar charges to his wife. In addition to the deaths of the children, prosecutors also allege the pair also killed Daybell’s former wife, Tammy, 49.

The couple — who believe the end times are upon the world and we must prepare for doomsday and the second coming of Christ — collected life insurance money and social security related to the three deaths, prosecutors have charged. The trial continues.
