Chloe Fineman roasted for ‘cringe’ interview with Stella McCartney, Aubrey Plaza
Joke’s on them.
“Saturday Night Live” star Chloe Fineman is being roasted for a “cringe” interview she conducted with Stella McCartney, Aubrey Plaza and Madelyn Cline at Monday night’s Met Gala — with many failing to realize it was a bit.
Fineman, 34, was chosen to host Vogue’s red-carpet livestream of the fashion gala alongside fashion journalist Derek Blasberg and broadcaster La La Kent, chatting with stars as they arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
McCartney, 51, attended the event alongside Plaza, 38, and Cline, 25, with the trio stopping to talk to the funnywoman before things seemingly went awry.
Viral video shows that Fineman first misnamed Plaza, calling her “Audrey” instead of “Aubrey,” before she was scolded by McCartney for not taking the interview “seriously.”
“I’ll be more serious,” Fineman giggled, before awkwardly stating: “My name is Chloe, and you took over from Karl Lagerfeld at [the fashion house] Chloe in 1997.”
Many Twitter pundits panned the comic’s interview, with one writing: “Seriously don’t know why Chloe Fineman was chosen as an ‘interviewer’/ why’s she even there.”
Another railed, “That convo between Stella McCartney and Chloe Fineman at The Met was so cringe.”
A third critic chimed in, referencing Fineman’s misnaming of Plaza. “As an Aubrey that always gets called Audrey. I feel my culture represented,” they slammed.
However, the comedian was simply palling around with Plaza, whom she met — and made out with — during a recent episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
“This was a bit, everyone please learn some common sense,” one Fineman fan tweeted, defending the comedian against criticism.
Still, some armchair critics were left unamused.
“Chloe and Derek were just cringe as a whole … even if this was a ‘bit,’ it was bad,” one tartly tweeted.
Fineman hasn’t hit back at the criticism on her Instagram account, instead sharing several re-posts of her glam red carpet look.
This year’s Met Gala theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” honored the late German fashion designer who was the creative director of Chanel until his death in 2019.
A slew of superstars including Rihanna, Serena Williams, Naomi Campbell and Nicole Kidman were among attendees at the annual event.
