Special counsel will hear from Trump Organization execs in classified document probe: report

Prosecutors working for special counsel Jack Smith will question two Trump Organization executives about the handling of surveillance footage from former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, according to a report.

Matthew Calamari Sr. and his son Matthew Calamari Jr. are expected on Thursday to appear before the grand jury hearing evidence in the government’s investigation of Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents, according to CNN.

The father-son pair are expected to face questions about the Trump Organization’s handling of Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage that reportedly captured Walt Nauta, an aide to the former president, and another employee at the Palm Beach, Fla., resort moving boxes containing documents out of a storage closet.

The Justice Department reportedly issued a subpoena for the footage last summer.

Calamari Sr., who once served as Trump’s bodyguard, is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Trump Organization. His son, Calamari Jr., is the director of security for the company.

They are also expected to be asked about the conversations had by Trump employees’ following the subpoena for the footage, according to the report.

Smith’s team has previously questioned lower-level Trump employees about the surveillance footage, according to CNN, asking if it could have been tampered with.

Prosecutors have also previously shown interest in a text message from Nauta to Calamari Sr. and conversations about the surveillance footage, according to the report.

Nauta reportedly told the FBI last year that he was ordered by Trump to move the document-filled boxes out of the Mar-a-Lago storage closet.

Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing since the FBI’s August 2022 raid of his Palm Beach resort which turned up hundreds of pages of classified documents.
