Vinicius Junior: Real Madrid players wear No. 20 shirts in support of winger who was racially abused against Valencia

Real Madrid walked out in No. 20 shirts before their game against Rayo Vallecano on Thursday to show support for forward Vinicius Junior, who was racially abused during a match at the weekend.

The Brazilian who was sent off at Valencia on Sunday after reacting to being racially abused by a section of home fans.

Since the shocking incident, Valencia have closed part of their stadium and Vincius’ red card has been rescinded.

Valencia were also fined €45,000 (£39,000) By the Spanish Football Federation.

Seven people have been arrested in connection to the incident and events in the wake of Sunday’s fixture.

Vinicius was present in the stands at the Bernabeu and received a standing ovation in the 20th minute of the game against Vallecano, which he gratefully welcomed with a wave of thanks.

There was also a large tifo on display, and Real Madrid’s basketball team also wore No. 20 shirts.

In the 20th minute the Bernabeu rose to give Vinicius a standing ovation, timed for the number of shirt.

Players across the globe showed their support for Vinicius on social media following the incident, as well as Raphinha during Barcelona’s loss at Real Valladolid.
Despite the horrible ordeal Vinicius endured, head coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed the forward does not plan on leaving Spain and Real Madrid.
