Claressa Shields looks for Savannah Marshall or Franchon Crews-Dezurn rematch after easy win over Maricelo Cornejo

Claressa Shields retained her undisputed middleweight status after defeating Maricela Cornejo on Saturday night.

The American, self-described as the “GWOAT”, remains unbeaten as was already looking towards her next potential fight.

At the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, the judges scored the fight unanimously in her favour, 100-89, 100-90, 100-90.

That moved Shields onto 14-0, and the American subjected her veteran opponent to a barrage of heavy blows at times which somehow did not elicit a third career knockout.

“I won every round like I knew I could,” Shields told DAZN after the fight.

She added: “It was a great fight and I think I looked really good.”

Shields might have forced a stoppage at times given her relentless blows, and in the seventh round had Cornejo in trouble with an uppercut and then hook, both from her left hand, followed up with a right.

Continuing her interview after the fight, she said she would entertain a rematch against the winner of Franchon Crews-Dezurn v Savannah Marshall. The winner will become the undisputed super middleweight champion, giving multi-division champion Shields a shot at yet more titles.

“Of course. I’m only interested in the best,” Shields said. “I’ll be looking at that fight.”

Shields beat Marshall in October last year, while she saw off Crews-Dezurn in her first pro fight in 2016.

Shields is also signed to the PFL MMA franchise, and revealed she thinks she could be champion there too, if she was given a couple of years to focus on the sport.
