Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik claims impressive Speedway victory at Teterow Grand Prix in Germany

Bartosz Zmarzlik was the one constant in an unpredictable Teterow Grand Prix and took an inevitable victory after heartbreak for Dan Bewley.

Bewley qualified for the semi-finals in second place behind Zmarzlik, but his bike packed up as he lined up for that semi-final from a dominant inside gate, and he was unable to compete.

However, Zmarzlik was always the man to beat and once he hit the front in the final the result was never in doubt.

It’s his second victory of the season after the opening Croatian Grand Prix, and he further extends his championship lead after a difficult evening for Freddie Lingren.

The Swede entered the night in second place but missed the semi-finals after a difficult evening, meaning Jack Holder overtakes him the championship – 12 points behind Zmarzlik.

In the final, a defensive Jason Doyle settled for second after seeing he couldn’t challenge Zmarzlik at the first turn. And Holder recorded his third podium from four events in 2023, overcoming surprise finalist Kim Nilsson.

The opening six heats were won from the inside gate on a dry a dusty track in east Germany, but the grand prix got more interesting from there.

The outside gate came more into play with Bewley making a few fantastic moves around the outside and racing lines appearing across the track.

The one man that rode the changing surface perfectly was Zmarzlik, and the grand prix looked to be his as soon as he made the final as first seed.

Robert Lambert was so close to making the final but overcommitted attempting to beat Zmarzlik in the semi-final and lost it all.

Meanwhile Tai Woffinden failed to qualify from the semi-finals for a second-successive week, missing out to Kim Nilsson on countback.
