Premier League fixtures: Manchester City start defence against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, Chelsea to face Liverpool

The 2023/24 Premier League fixtures are out, with Manchester City set to begin their title defence against Burnley on Friday August 11.

The fixture pits Treble-winning City against their former captain Vincent Kompany, who guided Burnley to Premier League promotion last season.

Pep Guardiola’s City overhauled Arsenal in the closing weeks of last season but the Gunners built the foundations of a surprise 2022-23 Premier League title tilt on a strong start that saw them win their opening five games of the season. They start against Nottingham Forest on Saturday August 12.

The Red Devils finished third – some 14 points shy of City – and start their campaign with a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday August 14.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle kept Ten Hag’s side honest for much of the season – briefly occupying third as the campaign drew to a close – and held off Liverpool to finish fourth and secure Champions League football. They face Aston Villa on Saturday August 12.

Villa finished seventh in the Premier League table to qualify for the Europa Conference League play-off round and were just one point and one position behind Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion, who, along with Liverpool, qualified for the Europa League group stage.
