NYC e-bike store fire ‘rekindles’ days after deadly blaze killed 4

A Lower Manhattan e-bike store caught fire for the second time this week, just three days after it sparked an inferno that claimed four lives.

Firefighters rushed to 80 Madison St. at 6 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of smoke and fire, FDNY officials said.

The blaze, which originated in HQ E-Bike Repair on the building’s first floor, was reported as a “rekindle” from the explosive fire that ripped through the store Tuesday.

Sixty fire and EMS personnel responded to the reported smoke and fire, as well as the hazmat unit.

The blaze was placed under control within the hour and there were no reported injuries, a stark difference from the tragedy that unfolded earlier this week.

The flames burst from a lithium-ion battery used to charge e-bikes around 12:15 and quickly tore through the six-story building, which had apartments above the shop.

Four elderly people — ranging in age from 62 to 85 — were killed in the fire and two others, aged 80 and 65, were left clinging to life.

Authorities said HQ E-Bike Repair was “known to the Fire Department” and had previously been slapped with “several” violations in the past.

The shop was cited for the number of devices and batteries it kept at the location, as well as the electrical wiring that it takes to charge these devices.

Eric Wu, whose parents perished in the fire, said he urged his 85-year-old father and 74-year-old mother to move out because of the safety concerns HQ E-Bike Repair posed.

“I wanted them to get out of there because it’s not safe,” he said of his parents Holly and Cheung, who lived in an apartment above the shop.
