Carlos Alcaraz ‘one of the most talented players I have ever seen,’ says Stefanos Tsitsipas ahead of Wimbledon
Stefanos Tsitsipas has lavished praise on Carlos Alcaraz, describing the Spanish tyro as “one of the most talented players I have ever seen.”
Alcaraz had a breakthrough year in 2022, winning his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open.

Wilander: Djokovic ‘big favourite’ for Wimbledon, has Alcaraz solved grass problem?

The 20-year-old will head to Wimbledon as the No. 1 seed and second favourite behind Djokovic.
Tsitsipas will be another player well fancied at SW19, and the Greek has had a keen eye on the development of Alcaraz – likening his emergence to the impact Rafael Nadal had in the mid 2000s.
“I think Carlos, now, is young blood, he runs very fast, he hits the ball very hard.
“He plays very free and is one of the most talented players I have ever seen.
“He’s going to be hard to beat. I know he is very good.
“He has shown in the last games we’ve played that he is a tough opponent. I try to make the best of this. I hope that different results can come.”
While Alcaraz is part of the new breed, Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer still dominate lots of attention.
Djokovic’s win at the French Open took him to the top of the tree in terms of Grand Slam victories in the men’s game at 23.
On that metric alone the Serb can lay claim to being the greatest of all time, but Tsitsipas would not be drawn on the GOAT debate.
“In my opinion, all of them are great,” Tsitsipas said. “Some people say that numbers matter, Grand Slam titles. Others say that it is more the number of fans that the player has drawn to tennis. That’s what counts.
“There are many versions of who is the best. I’ll let people draw their own conclusions.”
