Robert De Niro spotted for first time since grandson’s death
Robert De Niro was spotted in public Monday evening for the first time since his teenage grandson suddenly died.
The 79-year-old actor was photographed leaving his Upper East Side home wearing a blue polo, cap and surgical mask.
He held a newspaper up to cover his face as he walked into a waiting Escalade.
Earlier Monday, the De Niro family confirmed the death of Leandro De Niro Rodriguez after the 19-year-old was found dead in his New York City apartment Sunday.
A concerned friend had gone to check on the teen who was found in a chair, according to TMZ.
De Niro Rodriguez’s cause of death has yet to be determined.
But law enforcement sources told The Post investigators are looking into whether the teen overdosed on drugs.
The sources said a white powdery substance and drug paraphernalia were found in his apartment near his body.
The teenager is the son of Carlos Mare and Drena De Niro, 51, who confirmed his death in a heartbreaking post.
“My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly,” she wrote. “… I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you. I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.”
Drena was adopted by the famous Hollywood actor when he and her mother, Diahnne Abbott, wed in 1976.
