Fixtures stack up as play abandoned except for Centre Court at 2023 Wimbledon on Tuesday due to rain
Play has been cancelled on all outside courts at Wimbledon, with just matches on Centre Court still able to proceed.
The weather in SW19 has seen a number of interruptions caused by rain, which is particularly dangerous on grass courts as it makes the surface slippery, potentially causing injuries to players.
Before the Centre Court at Wimbledon was fitted with a retractable roof, the play at the tournament would regularly be suspended while the showers passed, with ballkids and other staff members required to rush onto the court with protectors.

As a result of play being suspended, organisers at Wimbledon face a conundrum to work through the sheer number of first round matches that are yet to be played.
As the two weeks progress, there are more chances for the courts to be used as players are whittled down but after just a day and a half’s play it will require a condensed schedule for play to catch up.
While rain is not forecast for the next few days in London, there could be complications for the tournament as rain is expected to restart at the weekend for a number of days.
