Remco Evenepoel: Reigning world champion confirmed to race at Vuelta a Espana this year
Reigning world champion Remco Evenepoel will return to the Vuelta a Espana this year.
Evenepoel had initially targeted the Giro d’Italia this year. There he won two stages and was in the lead before he was forced to pull out because of Covid-19.

His team Soudal Quick-Step have confirmed on Monday that he will make his fourth Grand Tour appearance next month.
“I am really excited to return at the Vuelta,” Evenepoel said.
“I obviously have only great memories from my first participation last year when we had an amazing time and I can’t wait to be there again, to take on the race and its many challenges and to meet again those amazing fans whose fantastic energy you feel every day.
“As you all know, I love racing in Spain, many of my biggest victories since turning pro have come there, and I hope I will continue on this road next month, when together with my Soudal Quick-Step teammates I will be at the start in Barcelona, where just a couple of months ago I took a nice win in rainbow.”
After his altitude training camp, Evenepoel will be competing at the Clasica San Sebastian on July 29 – which he has won twice in his career in 2019 and 2022 – before travelling to Glasgow to take part in the World Championships.
The Vuelta a Espana takes place from August 26 to September 17.
