RFK Jr. will testify before House panel on government censorship

Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be on Capitol Hill next week to discuss the federal government’s role in censoring free speech. 

The scion of the Kennedy family will provide testimony before the Republican-controlled House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, which is led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), on July 20. 

“The hearing will examine the federal government’s role in censoring Americans, the Missouri v. Biden case, and Big Tech’s collusion with out-of-control government agencies to silence speech,” reads a description of the hearing.

Kennedy is likely to discuss the White House’s January 2021 attempt to censor him over his sharing of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation. 

The longshot 2024 Democratic presidential candidate was mentioned in a preliminary injunction issued by Judge Terry Doughty last week which blocked Biden administration officials from contacting social media companies, citing collusion between government and Big Tech to suppress Americans’ First Amendment rights. 

Doughty’s ruling notes how the former digital director of the White House’s COVID-19 Response Team emailed Twitter on Jan. 23, 2021, to request the removal of a Twitter post by Kennedy.

The attorney celebrated the ruling last week, accusing the Biden administration of engaging in “blatant censorship.” 

“This ruling has been widely reported as barring the administration from ‘working with,’ ‘contacting,’ or ‘coordinating with’ social media,” he said in a statement. 

“These are euphemisms. The case is about blatant censorship, in which government agencies colluded with and coerced tech platforms to censor Constitutionally-protected speech,” he added.

“The judge got it exactly right when he wrote, ‘Freedom of speech and press is the indispensable condition of nearly every other form of freedom,’” Kennedy continued. “Without freedom of speech, there is no democracy.”

Emma-Jo Morris, a political editor at Breitbart News who previously worked for The Post, and D. John Sauer, the special assistant attorney general of Louisiana, will also testify before the weaponization panel next week. 

The Justice Department has filed a notice of appeal in the Big Tech collusion case.
