Emma Wilson takes silver medal at Paris 2024 Olympic Games test event in Marseille

Christchurch windsurfing ace Emma Wilson had nothing left to give after claiming silver at the Olympic Test Event in Marseille.

Wilson, 24, finished second in the iQFOiL windsurfing class behind Israeli Sharon Kantor to take her medal winning run to three from three events this year.

Now she will set her sights on gold at the World Championships in The Hague next month where she could also earn an Olympic quota space for Team GB where Wilson would hope to add to her Olympic bronze medal from Tokyo.

She said: “I am pretty broken, that was a really long week and then to do the semi-final which I won, which I am really happy about and then the final, I had a really good start, I just sent it from the top and then I had one bad gybe which at this level that costs you.

“Sharon and I have been fighting all week and she beat me in that race so she won, and I came second, but I can’t complain, I am happy.

“I am really proud of how I sailed and how I went about it, I had some injuries just before this so to get a silver medal is great.

“I am really enjoying my windsurfing, that is the third medal in three events this year, so I am just having fun really.

“We have the worlds in two weeks, and I want to go and do my best there and then see what is happening ahead of next year after a rest.”

Wilson is in excellent form on the water, something she attributes to being positive at all times, even when the going gets tough.

“I am really happy, I just really enjoy the foil, I think if I were to tell anyone it is just to enjoy the foil because if you are not enjoying it, there is no point doing it and that is always what I go by,” she added.

“Even here, I slightly messed up one gybe, but I am still happy.

“Thanks to everyone who supports me and my family and all the support staff here for keeping me in one piece and keeping me happy when it is not so good and all the team-mates too like Hannah (Snellgrove) for making my lunch, that was pretty good.

“I really enjoy the Olympic bubble, I feel like a little kid, it is just a cool environment, everyone is good, so the pressure is always on, you do not want to mess it up, I just really like it though.”
