Top 10 moments of 2022/23 snooker season: Who did you vote as your favourite? Luca Brecel, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby

Luca Brecel’s landmark World Championship triumph has been voted the outstanding moment of the 2022/23 season by Eurosport snooker fans.

Brecel also enjoyed epic victories over Ricky Walden (10-9), Mark Williams (13-11), O’Sullivan (13-10) and Si Jiahui (17-15) during his run to the showpiece match in Sheffield.

Snooker GOAT Ronnie O’Sullivan finished second on 17% courtesy of his astonishing world-record century attempt at the Scottish Open in November that saw him reach three figures in three minutes and 34 seconds, three seconds short of Tony Drago’s feat from 1996.

Brecel begins his 2023/24 campaign at the European Masters with a match against Jackson Page at the KIA Metropol Arena in the German city of Nuremberg between August 22-27 (live on Eurosport and discovery+).

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “I am just hoping I can play well at the start of the season and hopefully, I can win one or two tournaments this year.”

White and McManus hail Brecel and his ‘character’ after Crucible triumph

No. 1 – Brecel’s heavy metal snooker bewitches Crucible

While he emerges to the walk-on sounds of Insane in the Brain by Cypress Hill, the intensity of his crash, bang, wallop, all-out attacking style is more like Black Ball Sabbath, Motley Crue with cue in hand as he moves rapidly to the thunderous sound of his own beat.

The thin line between genius and insanity is perhaps never truer than finding the fine lines on a snooker table during the annual World Championship stress test.

Brecel was on the rampage at the Crucible in April and May, leathering the back of the pockets with a unique, high-risk, high-reward strategy that some thought would set him up only to lose.

Who knew that the percentage shot was old hat?
