Suits producer on if Meghan Markle could return for reboot

Meghan Markle is lawyering up — in a fictional story.

“Suits” is the show of the summer, even though it ended four years ago, in 2019.  The legal drama starring Meghan Markle, 41, has seen an unexpected second life on streaming. Similar to “The Office,” it’s become an unlikely hit.

The USA network show was added to Netflix on July 23 (the same day as King Charles III’s birthday parade), and is also streaming on Peacock. For the week of June 26 to July 2, “Suits” had 3.14 billion minutes of watch time, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Amid this surge in popularity, a revival is not out of the question – but Markle would probably not be in it, executive producer Gene Klein said.

“I’d be surprised if we could thread that needle for a reunion, but I’d also be delighted if that happened because [when] you do a show for that long, everybody becomes such a good friend,” he told TV Line.

But since Markle married Prince Harry in 2018 — and became the center of a never-ending media circus about their strained relationship with the royal family — getting her to return to the show is something that “I would assume that’s just not possible,” Klein said.

“Suits” is set at a fictional law firm in New York, following a cast of characters including Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a college dropout who never went to law school; “fixer” Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht); and managing partner Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) – who got a spinoff show in 2019 that was canceled after one season.

Many of these actors were invited to the royal wedding in 2018.

Markle starred on “Suits” as ambitious paralegal Rachel Zane, from 2011 to 2017. Although the show aired for nine seasons, she left the show in Season 7, when Rachel moved to Seattle and married Mike Ross (Adams). Katherine Heigl joined the show in her absence.

Series creator Aaron Korsch has previously spoken about “Suits” getting complicated after Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry went public.

Filming involved a lot of “logistics,” including “heightened security,” he told The Post in 2018.

“Without a doubt [Markle marrying Prince Harry] has jacked up our visibility,” he said. “All we really get is linear TV ratings and those were not affected as much by [the romance], but in terms of awareness of the show … it’s exploded. Any time somebody in your cast finds someone and falls in love is great — whether they’re famous or not.”

Still, even though Markle returning is unlikely, the renewed interest in “Suits” could mean there will be a revival, without the Duchess of Sussex.

“Since we found out this news [about the recent popularity] I’ve only exchanged texts with Aaron,” Klein told TV Line.

“And it was something on the order of, “Holy s – – t.” The most quotable part is he finishes a long rant with, “It’s nuts.” I think we’re all having kind of the same reaction, like, “This is amazing.

“I’ve mentioned to Aaron that I keep, in this era of reboots and reunions and all this other stuff, that I’m expecting a call at some point. But I’m not aware of any serious conversations. It’s just one of those things where, in this day and age, you wouldn’t be surprised if somebody called you someday. But so far, nothing that I’m aware of.”
