Hillary Clinton says she feels ‘profound sadness’ over Trump indictments

Hillary Clinton seemingly got the last laugh as she reacted to the news that ex-President Donald Trump was just indicted by a Georgia grand jury over his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state.

The former secretary of state visited “The Rachel Maddow Show” Monday in a pre-scheduled appearance to discuss an op-ed she recently published when the latest indictment against Trump was announced.

“Madam secretary, fancy meeting you here,” Maddow joked after bringing up the Peach State indictment.

“Oh, I can’t believe this,” a giddy Clinton said while laughing and leaning back in her chair.

“This is not the circumstances in which I expected to be talking to you,” the liberal MSNBC host said to the former Democratic presidential candidate who lost to Trump in 2016.

“Nor me, Rachel,” Clinton replied. “It’s always good to talk to you but honestly I didn’t think it’d be under these circumstances — yet another set of indictments.”

Trump, 77, faces 13 counts including violating Georgia’s anti-racketeering law, conspiracy, false statements and asking a public official to violate their oath of office in the latest of four indictments.

Maddow noted that Clinton warned the country about Trump’s threat to democracy and asked if she feels any satisfaction in the prosecution of her former Republican opponent.

The Democrat’s humor quickly disappeared as she became serious in answering the question.

“I don’t feel any satisfaction,” Clinton told Maddow. “I feel great profound sadness that we have a former president that has been indicted for so many charges that went right to the heart of whether or not our democracy would survive.”

“I don’t know that anybody should be satisfied,” Clinton added. “This is a terrible moment for our country to have a former president accused of these terribly important crimes. The only satisfaction may be that the system is working… and justice is being pursued.”

Trump has called the criminal probe a “witch hunt” as he and 18 others — including former Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis and Kenneth Chesebro — were indicted Monday.

The former commander-in-chief has racked up four indictments in just four-and-a-half months.

 In late March, he was charged by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg with 34 counts of business fraud in connection to so-called hush money pay-outs made to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Then in June and August, special counsel Jack Smith indicted Trump twice in just a few weeks — first for stashing classified White House documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and then for his botched attempt to remain in power after losing to Joe Biden.
