Nick Kyrgios gives hope of a big comeback after missing all four Grand Slams – ‘I still have some fire left’‘
Nick Kyrgios has given his fans hope of making a big return to tennis after injury forced him out of this year’s US Open.
A torn ligament in his wrist ruled the Australian out of Wimbledon and now the US Open, meaning the 28-year-old will miss all four Grand Slams this year.
He has now dropped out of the top 100 of the ATP rankings, but despite all that, Kyrgios delivered an upbeat update to his fans on Instagram.
Posting an image during a gym workout, Kyrgios wrote: “To my millions of fans out there, I guess we just have to be patient.
“Trust me, I still have some fire left in the tank, my body just needs time to recover and get back.
“Everything off-court is doing great. l am eyeing to come back and have a season like my last again.”
It has been a dramatic fall out of the spotlight for last year’s Wimbledon finalist, who enjoyed a superb year in 2022.
His run to a first-ever Grand Slam final at the All England Club was undoubtedly the highlight, where he was beaten in four sets by Novak Djokovic.
In total, Kyrgios managed to achieve a 79% win rate and had a 37-10 win-loss record on the ATP circuit, prompting hopes that he could be a regular Grand Slam contender.
Injuries have been a common theme across Kyrgios’ career, with the issues arguably hastening after last year’s US Open.
A knee problem surfaced following his quarter-final exit at Flushing Meadows, and he has since featured only three times on the court.
He has since undergone surgery in a bid to rectify his knee issue, which ruled him out of this year’s Australian Open.
If Kyrgios does return to action in the near future, those hoping for a career to match the longevity of Djokovic or Rafael Nadal are set to be disappointed.
When speaking about his retirement plans, he recently said: “I’m not playing till I’m 33, once I’m gone, you’ll never see me again.”
