Memphis teen Syqavius Hoyett found dead days after grandmother killed by boyfriend

A missing Tennessee teenager was found dead Monday — just four days after his grandmother was allegedly shot and killed by her younger boyfriend.

The frantic search for 15-year-old Syqavius Hoyett had come to a tragic end as Memphis Police said they suspected his killer is the same man who allegedly murdered Syqavius’s grandmother last week.

Herman Hollis-Brown will now face “additional charges” in connection to the young teenager’s death, according to the Memphis Police Department.

The circumstances around Syqavius’ death were not immediately clear.

He had been missing since Aug. 16, the day before his grandmother and legal guardian Anneria Turman was found dead in a wooded area near her home.

Turman was shot in the back of the head, according to an affidavit obtained by ABC 24.

The woman’s family told investigators that Turman shared her home with boyfriend Hollis-Brown, who was not related to Syqavius.

After being “unable to locate Turman’s grandson,” detectives turned up at Hollis-Brown’s house, where they reportedly noticed blood smears caked on the concrete floor.

Later they would allegedly find blood throughout multiple rooms of the home, a metal fragment from a bullet projectile and Turman’s cell phone and purse.

Investigators then found Hollis-Brown allegedly driving Turman’s sedan near his house.

After stopping the car, police found more signs of violence — including blood leading from the trunk of the car to the back bumper, the court records state,

When he was being taken into custody, Hollis-Brown allegedly told his family members, “I’m going to be gone for a while.” 

The accused killer was booked on first-degree murder charges and abuse of a corpse, jail records show.

It is not clear what charges he will face in connection to Syqavius’ death.

Police are staying tightlipped regarding possible motives for either of the two murders.
