Special Bob Barker tribute to air on CBS days after death

He was priceless.

CBS will honor the late Bob Barker, who died on Aug. 26 at the age of 99, with a special tribute to the longtime host of “The Price Is Right.”

A special one-hour tribute episode to Barker and his career will air on the network on Thursday at 8 p.m. EST as well as on Paramount+.

On Sept. 4, an encore showing of the event will be replayed on CBS as well.

Drew Carey, who was Barker’s successor on the game show, will host the special.

“This tribute to the legendary Bob Barker will bring back great memories for generations of ‘The Price Is Right’ fans who loved Bob, his humor, his ability to connect with contestants and his innate talent for making the most out of every moment,” said Margot Wain, SVP of daytime programs.

She continued: “Bob was one-of-a-kind; he’ll be remembered as an extraordinary host, a devoted animal activist, and, as he would put it, ‘a loyal friend and true.’ We’re so pleased to be able to salute his many accomplishments and honor his memory in this way.”

Barker cemented his TV legacy when he became the host of the game show in 1972.

The big screen event will showcase “priceless” on-camera moments throughout Barker’s 50-plus year career as the show’s “master of ceremonies.”

The special will feature memorable moments, like introducing the game “Plinko” to contestants for the very first time and more.

Barker had emceed the trivia show from 1972 to 2007 and often ended his shows by saying the line: “Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.”

He scored 14 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 1999 awards show.

“Bob Barker was a daytime television mainstay for generations [who] helped to define the game show genre, cementing the ‘Price is Right’ as a powerhouse format that has remained essentially unchanged for more than half a century,” Adam Sharp, president and CEO of the National Academy of Television Art and Sciences, told The Post last week following the news of the Washington native’s death.

Sharp continued: “You don’t mess with perfection. His championship of the craft and for animal welfare were equal in their exuberance. His presence will be missed greatly by the Emmy community.”

The “Truth or Consequences” host was gifted a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1976 and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2004.

Back in 2007, Barker was asked how he’d liked to be remembered.

“I think that it would be nice if people remembered me as a guy who loved all living things and did as much as he could to make ours a better world for animals — and also did quite a few television shows.”
