UFC Fight Night as it happened – Ciryl Gane stops Serghei Spivac, Manon Fiorot defeats Rose Namajunas
Follow LIVE updates of the event from 18:00.
2330: WATCH GANE’S MASTERPIECE
We wondered if the Jon Jones defeat had taken something out of him, but this performance dispelled all the doubts…
And with that we will leave you after the most exhilarating of UFC evenings. Thanks for following the action with us.
2315: WATCH ALONG CREW DISAPPOINTED AT ‘COP OUT’
2300: GANE NOT DRAWN ON ASPINALL FIGHT
Britain’s heavyweight king Tom Aspinall is at ringside, but Gane did not engage in trash talk, just saying “My mission whoever it is, is to go forward … and get the belt.”
2255: ROUND 2 KO FOR GANE – REFEREE STOPS THE CONTEST
What a performance from Gane. His striking so educated. Softening his opponent up with body shots and knees and then when his opponent’s threat waned he landed huge a huge right hand which was the beginning of the end. After a custer of blows against the cage the referee stepped in.
2250: AN ASSURED ROUND FROM GANE
Early on he controlled the fight with leg kicks, then he defended two takedowns, landed a massive knee to the kidneys and began to land with his shots in the second half of the round.
2245: THE FIGHTERS ARE GETTING THEIR INSTRUCTIONS…
2239: GANE ENTERS THE ARENA…
Everyone in the arena on their feet, most with phones in their hand as the former interim champion makes his way to the Octagon.
2233: LAST CHANCE TO WATCH THE BIG FIGHT
2230: SAINT-DENIS RECEIVES HUGE OVATION AFTER WIN
2228: FIOROT WINS BY UNANIMOUS DECISION
30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 in favour of the ‘The Beast’ Manon Fiorot, her sixth win on the trot.
2226: IT WILL GO TO THE JUDGES…
Both fighters put their arms in the air but surely the home fighter has it. Kudos to ‘Thug’ Namajunas fighting with a dislocated finger (at best) and she was still going forward to the end.
2220: A CLOSER ROUND…BUT STILL FIOROT TAKES IT
She has blood covering the whole of the right side of her face from an accidental head colission, but she still had the more telling blows, with her side-kicks.
2214: FIOROT TAKES THE FIRST
Her precision jabs the difference between them so far.
2205: TWO-TIME STRAWWEIGHT CHAMPION FACES #3 FLYWEIGHT
The biggest ever female MMA fight on French soil. The hugely popular Manon Fiorot (10-1) takes on Rose ‘Thug’ Namajunas stepping up from strawweight.
2158: NOT TOO LATE TO WATCH THE BIG FIGHTS
2155: THE MOST IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT SO FAR…
Must go to Volkan Oezdemir who knocked down the dangerous Bogdan Guskov – and then made him tap.
2151: REFEREE STOPS FIGHT
Saint-Denis gets massive roar as he wins. After taking Moses down for the fourth time the crowd were Allez-ing with each knee and punch he landed. And after ground and pound without defence the referee stopped the fight.
2144: DOMINANT ROUND FROM SAINT-DENIS
An elbow split Moses’ eyebrow open after the Brazilian twice needed a break for low blows way south of the border.
2137: ANOTHER HUGELY POPULAR HOME FIGHTER
And what a boost this home crowd must give them. ‘God of War’ Benoit Saint-Denis (11-1) takes on Brazilian Thiago Moses (17-6) in the lightweight division.
2131: A LOOK BACK AT THE NIGHT’S CONTROVERSIAL ENDING…
Just a week on from Usyk-Dubois we saw another below the belt (or not) controversy. This time a low blow not given.
2124 – NOT FAR AWAY FROM GANE-SPIVAC
Three fights left on the card, with the mouth-watering heavyweight contest topping the bill.
2120: WHAT A PERFORMANCE FROM OEZDEMIR!
The UFC proved deep waters for Bogdan Guskov and just the second submission of Volkan Oezdemir’s career. After being caught with a big right hand earlier in the fight, Oezdemir landed two huge left hooks and then after some ground and pound, locked in a rear-naked choke hold to make his opponent tap.
2110: LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT CONTEST PROMISES FIREWORKS
Number-nine ranked Volkan Oezdemir has 12 knockout in his 18-7 record, faces Bogdan Guskov (14-2, 12 KOs) who Bisping calls a “terrifying prospect”.
2102: A REMINDER OF THE STOPPAGE OF THE NIGHT SO FAR…
2058: FIGHT CALLED OFF – GOMIS WINS BY STOPPAGE!
‘An unsatisfactory ending,’ Bisping says. Shades of Usyk there. Ghemmouri felt he got a low blow. The referee said it was legal. It looked right on the belt. As Ghemmouri cowered from the blow, the referee waved it over. Gomis was winning the fight anyway…
2054: DESERT WARRIOR NEEDS TO FIRE NOW
His corner have told him he is two rounds down.
2048: CROWD WAITING FOR FIGHT TO HEAT UP
These two fighters know each other and the first round was more feeling each other out but Gomis ending it better landing big kicks.
2032: HOME CROWD WITH A QUANDARY
Parisian William ‘Jaguar’ Gomis (12-2) faces up against former K1 champion Yanis ‘The Desert Warrior’ Ghemmouri (12-1) from Lyon.
2024: ‘THE LAST PIRATE’ CHARRIERE WINS BY STOPPAGE IN ROUND 1
A superlative kick-boxing display. A liver kick hurt Zecchini and two front kicks interspersed with stiff jabs had the Italian down and the referee stepped in with Charriere then landing repeated unanswered blows.
2015: FRANCE VS ITALY
A featherweight contest now between Italian Manolo Zecchini (11-3) and another home favourite Morgan Charriere (18-9-1), who is on a three-fight win streak and making his UFC debut.
2003 – THE MAIN CARD IS NEXT!
2001: UNANIMOUS DECISION IN FAVOUR OF LAPILUS
A huge ovation from the French crowd. Loughran (8-1) tastes defeat for the first time. Lapilus is now 19-3, with a six-fight win streak.
1959: LOUGHRAN NOT DOING ENOUGH WITH TAKEDOWNS
The superior striking from the home fighter likely to get him the win.
1953: A TOUGH ROUND TO CALL
Lapilus with the cleanest punches from range but Loughran forcing him against the cage for much of the round.
1944: ‘THIS IS THE BEST CROWD IN UFC’
Michael Bisping’s words not mine. We were treated to a rousing la Marseilaise during an even first round. Lapilus in charge early fighting at range, but Loughran forced his opponent against the fence in the closing stages.
1934: THE DON FACING HOME FAVOURITE NOW
Unbeaten Irishman Caolan Loughran (8-0) is making his UFC debit against returning French hero Taylor Lapilus (18-3).
1930: UNANIMOUS DECISION IN FOR LOOSA
Scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.
1928: FANTASTIC RALLY FROM MCKEE
Loosa was turning his back at one stage and not far from being stopped. But surely Loosa’s first two rounds will give him the victory. Mike Bisping calls him the Irish Zombie – it seems apt.
1922: LOOSA WITH AN ONSLAUGHT OF PUNCHES
McKee did well to survive that. Over 50 strikes landed in the round and at one stage he was against the Octagon wall getting pummelled with the referee looking closely. His right eye looks horrific now.
1916: MCKEE IMPROVED AS ROUND WENT ON
It looks an even fight now. But some damage done to McKee’s nose and eye.
1913: IRISHMAN MCKEE IN ACTION AGAINST LOOSA
He has had to eat big right hands early in the first round.
1906: TNT SPORTS IS THE EXCLUSIVE HOME OF UFC IN THE UK
TNT Sports will bring you live coverage of every UFC card from Las Vegas and beyond.
1900: CORNOLLE WINS ON POINTS
A unanimous win. This gets a fantastic reception from the home crowd. It seemed a close fight. Both fighters performed well.
1851: ALL TO PLAY FOR IN ROUND 3
Edwards again brought the home fighter to ground, but once more she fought back in the closing stages, applying a body triangle.
1845: COMPETITIVE FIRST ROUND
Edwards looked like getting an advantage forcing Cornolle against Octagon and then the floor but the French fighter turned her over towards the end of the round.
1839: HOME FAVOURITE CORNOLLE TAKES ON VETERAN EDWARDS
Panamanian Joselyne Edwards has a 13-4 record and is favourite against Nora Cornolle (6-1) in the women’s bantamweight division.
1825: HUGE PERFORMANCE FROM BASHARAT
The bantamweight made his opponent Kleydson Rodriguez tap in the closing moments of the first round. Working his way through the half guard of Rodriguez to put in a choke hold to end the contest. Farid Basharat extends his record to 15-0, with his fourth win in the UFC and will be climbing up from his unofficial bantamweight ranking in the mid-40s.
