US Open 2023: Day 9 order of play and schedule – When are Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff playing?

Novak Djokovic will look to reach the semi-finals of the US Open for the 13th time as he takes on American ninth seed Taylor Fritz on Tuesday in New York.

World No. 2 Djokovic secured his place in the quarter-finals with a straight-sets victory against Croatian qualifier Borna Gojo on Monday, while Fritz overcame Dominic Stricker without dropping a set.

The other men’s match sees Frances Tiafoe take on 20-year-old Ben Shelton in an all-American affair.

In the women’s side of the draw, world No. 6 Coco Gauff will look to get the better of former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko.

Sorana Cristea and Karolina Muchova will also battle it out for a place in the final four.

Top women’s match – Jelena Ostapenko [20] v Coco Gauff [6]

Following Jessica Pegula’s defeat in the round of 16, world No. 6 Coco Gauff is now the highest-ranked American player at the US Open.

The reputation the 19-year-old sensation has earned in recent times means expectations are high, but she’ll have to be on top form if she is to win the first Grand Slam of her career.

Gauff will of course have the partisan crowd on her side, but this one promises to be an epic battle at Flushing Meadows.

Ostapenko beat Gauff in their last meeting at the 2023 Australian Open.

Top men’s match – Taylor Fritz [9] v Novak Djokovic [2]

An eagerly anticipated final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz remains a possibility after both progressed to the quarter-finals.

Djokovic made light work of Croatian Borna Gojo, winning 6-2 7-5 6-4 to set up an intriguing match-up with Taylor Fritz.

World No. 9 Fritz saw off Dominic Stricker in the fourth round and will be hoping home support can give him a boost against one of the greatest players of all time.

Djokovic has won all seven previous meetings against Fritz, including in Cincinnati last month.
