But six-time world finalist Jimmy White lost 5-1 to Liam Highfield with the world No. 59 winning the final four frames to progess boosted by breaks of 66 and 104.
Elsewhere, Hong Kong’s three-time ranking event winner Marco Fu produced some vintage form to complete a 5-4 victory over Iran’s world No. 17 Hossein Vafaei.
The pair traded frames with Vafaei, who never led in the contest, producing 52, 77, 53 and 66 and Fu responding with 55 and a closing 86 to win it.
World No. 20 RIcky Walden is also out after losing 5-3 to world No. 112 Ian Burns in a shock outcome.
